FELIPE (PHIL) TSOY
Felipe (Phil) Tsoy started learning karate from his father in 1988 at the age of 6 following a family tradition he passed on to his son, Victor - Manitoba Champion in all federations.
Under the belief that karate is not a dogmatic and static art, he trained with teachers in different styles (shotokan and goju-ryu) and martial arts (e.g. ninjutsu, jiu-jitsu and taekwondo) and, additionally to his qualification in Shunryu® Karate he still trains and holds 2nd degree black belts in Shotokan and Goju-Ryu Karate.
In Germany, he learned new faces of karate and started to value both traditional and modern approaches equally. As a competitor, Phil participated in tournaments in 3 continents, including an IKD World Cup, and won medals in different categories.
As a certified children's instructor, Phil believes that kids learn different than adults and the focus should be set in teaching practical skills (e.g. confidence, self-defence, coordination and falls) with playful activities before they develop the maturity and understanding to take a deeper and more philosophical approach.
